Overview
Expeditions should be regarded and executed as challenging activities to develop self reliance, confidence and military skills. |
Basic Training and 1-Star Levels Cadets learn ‘Campcraft’, the skills required to pitch a tent, cook a meal and exist in a strange environment for a short period. |
2-Star and 3-Star Levels The subject involves moving across country, camping out and putting map and compass skills into practice. |
DofE Linkage Expedition Training ideally matches the stages of progress in the DofE Award with the approval of the County DofE Award Officer. |
Planning and Conduct Timely, careful and imaginative planning will deliver challenging, safe and enjoyable expeditoins.   The extent of challenge depends on the skills and experience of the adult supervision.   Route cards must always be prepared by all cadets. |
Dress and Bearing In all expeditions, cadets should be properly turned out, with reasonable uniformity and with the appropriate equipment.   They must always act in a disciplined way.   Expeditions must never be allowed to deteriorate into a ‘ramble’ with little purpose. |
Safety - Wild Country (For definition and safety rules, see Cadet Training Safety Precautions (AC 70786) paras 0208 and 0209.)
Expedition Training at 1-star to 4-Star levels is not normally to be carried out in Wild Country.
In addition to ACF Rules for Expedition Training, local rules for training in Wild Country in all parts of the UK will be supplied by the local Regular Army HQ and must be strictly adhered to at all times.
If supervisors are qualified, expeditions may be held in Wild Country.   The ‘1 to 5’ instructor/cadet ratio must be adhered to, and cadets must be properly clothed and equipped for the conditions expected.
