Wiltshire Cadet 150 Celebrations

Sat/Sun 26/27 Jun 10

Wiltshire Army Cadets played a central part in Wiltshire British Armed Forces’ Day and Veterans’ Celebrations in Trowbridge over the weekend 26/27 June 2010.   It was a superb event, brought to a close with consummate style by the Band of the Royal Marines.

Our very own Bugles and Drums opened the weekend’s celebrations with a fanfare in front of the bandstand on Saturday morning.   The Bugles and Drums returned early in the afternoon, in searing heat, to put on a marching band display which drew much applause from the crowd.   On Sunday afternoon, the Bugles and Drums led our contingent in the Veterans' parade.

The first Joint Services Cadets Gun Run Competition in Wiltshire was held on the Saturday morning.   Three of our Companies and the Air Training Corps entered teams into this hotly contested event.   The determination and teamwork of the teams was palpable and hugely rewarding to witness.   B (Anzio) Company were victorious on behalf of Wiltshire Army Cadet Force with the Air Training Corps a close and most respectable second.

Twice in the programme Wiltshire Army Cadets put on a Mock Battle comprising a section attack supported by a 105mm Light Gun from the Royal School of Artillery.   Throughout it was Cadets who performed, even bringing the Light Gun into action and firing two rounds on each occasion, rattling windows across the town.   This was thoroughly enjoyable and very well received.

Throughout the weekend the weather was exceptional, and the heat rather demanding.
