A (Ferozeshah) Company participated in their annual adventure training weekend between the dates 25th - 27th September 2009.
Willsworthy Camp on Dartmoor was the base camp and with everyone meeting on the Friday evening the Company was set for a real adventure ahead of them.
The weekend began by settling into accommodation and with the standard safety lectures and admin out of the way everyone settled down for the night with anticipation of the excitement ahead.
Saturday morning was met with fair but dry weather.   Three stands had been planned and with the cadets and adults spilt into groups the OC briefed everyone on the adventure activities.
The activities planned for all were:
Letterboxing on the Moor.
Groups would navigate via a course following grids, bearings and location descriptions of 'Tor Stamps'.   These had been hidden during the previous week by Jason and Kate from Devon ACF.   Groups had to find the pots, record the stamp on cards and move to the next location.   A total of ten stamps had to be found.
Rock Climbing.
Meldon Quarry would again see cadets honing their climbing skills under the watchful eye of SI Hall and Capt. Rogers. This included more challenging routes with a more technical aspect.
Gorge Scrambling.
New to the Company was Gorge Scrambling.   Adventure Okehampton provided the instructors and saw cadets and adults don wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets.   Then onward to the gorge which contained rock pools, waterfalls and various gorge obstacles.   Participants began their journey from bottom to top negotiating the cold water on route (see pictures).
The weekend came rapidly to an end due to the fun had by all.   All stamps had been located (see picture), well done to Lt Calaz and CSM Hearn for collecting all ten with the three groups.   Technical climbs had been achieved with adults and cadets alike showing great courage and determination at the stand.   Last but very not least the cadets and adults simply raved about the gorge scrambling and all agreed it was one of the best adventure activities we had all done.
Our thanks goes to outside staff; SMI Donaldson, Capt Rogers and the RSM for their continued support.   Jason and Kate from Devon ACF for the letterbox route.   Adventure Okehampton www.adventureokehampton.com for their professional and humorous instructors whilst conducting the superb scrambling activity.   Last but not least the cadets for their enthusiasm and 100% effort and of course the Company instructors who never fail to impress with their commitment and support to a fantastic Company.
It truly was the best yet!!
