Calne Cadets visit Army Air Corps at Middle Wallop

Mon 27 Jul 09

11 cadets from Calne Detachment, visited the Army Air CorpS at Middle Wallop on Mon 27 Jul 09.   Hosted by Capt Lizzie Dunn, the day started with a presentation which left all the cadets wanting to be helicopter pilots!!   From there they visited the Gazelle and Lynx hangars in which the cadets were showed in and around the aircraft.

They were then given a very rare visit to the Apache hangar, where to their amazement some ladders appeared and they were invited to sit in the pilot's seat.   No photos were allowed and with instructions not to touch anything (because at £33,000,000 each, Calne Detachment's funds wouldn't go far on repairs),one by one they all had a go.

From there we travelled a few miles to a training area where we had our packed lunch and waited for Capt Dunn to arrive in a Gazelle.   In the afternoon all the Cadets had a familiarization flight.   This was a fantastic day and a great opportunity to see another side of the Army.   Thanks goes to all those at Middle Wallop and to PAI Master (old sweat AAC) of Calne Detachment for organising the day.   The AAC at Middle Wallop are only too pleased to continue with the visits, just get in touch with PAI Masters or Lt Calaz for details.
