South West Region First Aid Competition 2009 |
Sun 19 Apr 09 |
This year the two teams representing Wiltshire at the South West Regional First Aid competition came from the Devizes Detachment.   Both teams performed really well achieving 4th and 7th place from 14 teams entered.
The competition is set at 2 Star (Youth First Aider) level and the average age of competitors are 15 & 16 years old.   The teams from Devizes were all 1 Star cadets and aged 13 & 14 years.
With this in mind the teams knew they facing a tough competition but through their hard work and effort and with all the training Team A managed a 4th place missing out on medals by only 2 points.   Team B managed a respectable 7th place out of the 14 teams that entered.
The competition itself involved both a team event and an individual test for all 4 team members. Injuries included open and closed fractures, unconsciousness, head wounds dislocated shoulders, Open wounds with glass in and a very difficult to diagnose of Anaphylactic shock.
The County First Aid Officer Captain Nigel Inseal said he was very pleased with the teams efforts and was sure that they would stand a good chance to win the trophy next year.   To achieve 4th & 7th place was a tremendous result for 1 Star Cadets of this age.   He also wishes to express his thanks to Lt Mandy Rowley for her time and effort in training the teams.
